Where the next generation of therapists learns to listen.

The Healing Haven SLC serves as a field education site for Master of Social Work students — because good therapy should outlive any one therapist.

What this means for clients

Nothing about your care changes without your consent.

From time to time, a graduate intern — a Master of Social Work student in their advanced clinical year — trains at the practice under Helen's direct supervision. You will always know who is in the room and why, and working with an intern is always your choice, never a requirement.

One

Always your choice

You decide whether a supervised intern is part of your care. Declining never affects your access to the practice or the quality of your welcome here.

Two

Fully supervised

Interns work under the close, ongoing supervision of Helen DeLovely, LCSW, including weekly supervision and case review, consistent with their university's standards.

Three

Same privacy

Interns are held to the same confidentiality, privacy, and ethics obligations as licensed clinicians — HIPAA applies to everyone in this building.

The program

A field placement built the way we build everything here — slowly, on purpose.

Beginning with the 2026–2027 academic year, The Healing Haven SLC hosts MSW field placements in partnership with accredited schools of social work. Interns complete their advanced clinical practicum here — several hundred hours of supervised, real-world training in somatic, trauma-informed care.

Depth

Clinical depth

Trauma and PTSD, ADHD and executive functioning, neurodivergent-affirming and LGBTQ+-affirming practice — the intern learns the way the practice works: consent-based pacing, the body included.

Structure

Structured learning

A learning contract, weekly supervision, live case consultation, and orientation to practice operations — documentation, ethics, and the humble logistics of real practice.

Scope

Whole-practice exposure

Interns see how an independent practice actually runs: intake and consult flow, group programming, community partnerships, and the standards of care behind all of it.

Supervision

Training under a clinician who shows up as a person.

Field instruction is provided by Helen DeLovely, LCSW — Licensed Clinical Social Worker, somatic practitioner, and founder of The Healing Haven SLC. Helen holds an MSW and MPA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and brings over two decades of experience across clinical treatment, behavioral intervention, and human services to her role as a field instructor.

Supervision at the Haven follows the same values as the clinical work itself: honest feedback, steady pacing, and room to be human while you learn. Interns are treated as future colleagues, not free labor.

Questions

The honest fine print.

Will I ever be seen by an intern without knowing?

No. If an intern would be part of your care in any way, you'll be told clearly and asked first. Consent is not a formality here — it's the whole method.

Are sessions with an intern less expensive?

Where intern-provided services are offered, they may be available at a reduced rate. Details are discussed openly before any scheduling happens.

Who supervises the intern?

Helen DeLovely, LCSW, serves as the field instructor of record, with weekly supervision, case review, and evaluation conducted in partnership with the intern's university.

Is my information shared with the university?

Your privacy is protected. University requirements are about the intern's learning, not your identity — any case discussion for training purposes is handled per HIPAA and professional ethics.
